Budapest, the city of fun

Explore the most vibrant city of East-Central Europe!
Have historical capitals at your fingertips! (Vienna, Prague, Bratislava)
An enchanting mix of western and eastern european traits

Budapest is a highly accessible European city that appeals to younger travelers seeking leisure and entertainment. It is well-known for its party tourism, thanks to its excellent value for money in commercial and catering services. Budapest also offers an increasing range of cultural activities and has become a gastronomic destination in recent years. Direct flights from non-European cities have contributed to Budapest’s popularity. Additionally, the city boasts historical beauty, unique landscapes, and growing cultural and sporting events. Budapest is the best value for money destination among major European cities due to its cost/value proportionality.

Travel hubs and public transport

For sure during your mobility you will get to know the city (that we support with a Budapest Public Transport ticket for the whole period of your stay!) very well, but until that check this small guide to avoid orientation issues.

Budapest is a very straightforward city when it comes to public transportation so there is no need to worry about how you will find your address whether you arrive by car, bus, train or plane.

Airport transfer

Line 100E is your best choice!

The direct service called 100E (shuttle bus) provides service between Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport and Deák Ferenc tér, which is in the city centre.

It only stops at the three most important squares of the inner city namely: Kálvin tér, Astoria , Deák Ferenc tér.

These squares are connected to Budapest’s transportation system, you can change here for other lines in order to reach your destination.

A single ticket currently costs 1500 HUF which is roughly 4 euros.

Public transport tickets are NOT valid for the shuttle bus!

Trams (Villamos)

Trams are one of the major means of transportation inside the city.
The most important and famous lines are the number 4 and number 6 lines, they goes on Nagykörút (Big boulevard), and you can approach almost any POI in the city centre.

Buses (Buszok)

Budapest has over 200 bus lines that reach most parts of the city but, despite its extensive network, the easiest ways to get around the city centre are by tram or metro, avoiding the city’s traffic jams.

Subway (Metro)

The city has 4 metrolines: M1 (Yellow), M2 (Red), M3 (Blue), M4 (Green).

The metro opens every day at 4:30 am and runs until 11:00 pm

The trains pass every 2 to 15 minutes depending on the time of day.

For more information about different lines and methods of transportation visit the official website of the budapest transportation center (BKK):

Helpful informations
Emergency contact

Emergency number: 112

People in distress can call 112 24/7 to reach the fire brigade, medical assistance and the police.

Hungarian Forint

Hungary’s currency is the Hungarian forint. 1 euro equals approximately 400 HUF but check the latest information on the European Central Bank’s webpage: Click here

We would highly suggest that you change your home country’ currency to Forint (HUF).

Many stores and other places accept Euros as well. However, the exchange rates at such places often don’t follow the most up-to-date bank rates, and this is not in favor of the customers. Be prepared to get the change in HUF.

Cheapest Supermarkets

What are the cheapest supermarkets in Budapest?

Our preferred choices would include: Lidl and Aldi that are discount stores.

Spar is one of the biggest chains, generally average prices.
